First of September, 2010, the students of the Grodno State University received student cards of a new type: RFID-based smart plastic cards.

Starting from 2010 such new student cards will be implemented in all higher educational establishments of the Republic of Belarus. The new student card is completed in the form of smart RFID-based document which contains not only information about the holder of the card but also data needed for different services provided to students.

Intellectual student card will serve as an entry-pass to academic buildings and dormitory accommodations. It will also be used for lending out books in libraries, for accessing information resources of the university and Internet from lecture halls, etc.

These options are supported in the innovative project that is realized by the joint laboratory of the Center for Identification Systems of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian State University. In development of this innovative project also participate leading organizations and specialists experienced in creation and deployment of information systems based on intellectual documents and radiofrequency identification.

It is planned that the developed standard program-technical systems will be used further in other Universities of the Republic.
